The hike begins at Nagarkot Community Homestay in Bastola Gaun, a 25 km from Kathmandu. This half-day trek to a local waterfall traverses forests, farmland, and open spaces, offering stunning hill and mountain views. Embrace the journey as much as the destination, encountering several smaller waterfalls en route. During warm weather, take a refreshing dip in the waterfall gorge, so pack your swimwear accordingly. You may also have the opportunity to sample local rice wine, known as raksi, from nearby brewers. Choose between morning or afternoon departures based on your schedule, with afternoon walks preferred in cooler months and early morning outings more comfortable in hotter weather. While there will be some elevation changes, the hike remains moderately challenging.

Nagarkot is a hill station and one of Kathmandu's most popular short-break destinations. Travelers to Nagarkot were more likely to visit the main Nagarkot Dhanda and stay in one of the many hotels which rarely benefitted the locals. The community homestay program has brought opportunities to the locals as hosts and guides. Tourism now is one of the major sources of revenue for the locals at Bastola gaun. It has encouraged women to participate in their communities by allowing them to take on greater responsibilities.

Nagarkot is home to a farming community, by day the villagers work in the fields tending to their crops and livestock. The children spend the day in the school and their evenings playing hide and seek.
